Distal Biceps Rupture

A distal biceps rupture is a condition that occurs when the tendon that connects the biceps muscle to the forearm bone is torn or ruptured.

This can happen due to sudden injury or overuse of the arm, such as lifting a heavy object or participating in activities that require repetitive arm movements.

When you rupture the biceps, it usually retracts and has a "Popeye deformity" similar to the picture on the right. You may notice significant swelling and bruising in your arm.

Without surgery, a distal biceps rupture can lead to long-term weakness in the affected arm. With physical therapy exercises, however, most people with a distal biceps rupture do not see significant impairments over time.
