Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is a condition that affects the bottom of your foot, particularly the band of tissue that runs from your heel to your toes, called the plantar fascia.
Some common causes of plantar fasciitis include wearing shoes with poor arch support, walking barefoot on hard surfaces, flat feet, or engaging in activities that put a lot of stress on the feet, such as running or jumping.
When this band becomes inflamed, it can cause pain and discomfort, especially when you walk or stand for long periods of time. This is because the plantar fascia helps support the arch of your foot, and when it is strained or overused, it can lead to small tears in the tissue and subsequent inflammation.
Treatment typically involves rest, stretching and strengthening exercises. Orthotic devices such as shoe inserts or night splints often help in addition to your exercises. Antiinflammatory medications may help to decrease pain and inflammation also.
