Hip Bursitis/
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
Hip bursitis and greater trochanteric pain syndrome is a condition that can cause pain and inflammation in the outer hip area. It occurs when the bursae and tendons in this area become inflamed.
Repetitive motions such as running or walking, weak muscles, an injury or underlying medical conditions can increase risk of getting this condition.
The symptoms of hip bursitis can include pain in the outer hip that may radiate down the thigh, and tenderness or swelling in the affected area.
Treatment for hip bursitis typically involves a combination of rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medications , corticosteroid injections, and physical therapy exercises. With appropriate treatment, most people with hip bursitis can expect to see improvement in their symptoms over time, and may be able to return to normal activities with little to no pain or discomfort.
