Trigger Finger

Trigger finger occurs when your flexor tendon thickens, causing it to get stuck under one of your pulley ligaments that holds it close to the bone at the base of your finger.

Diabetes, carpal tunnel release, and a few health conditions have been linked to increase risk of trigger finger.

Your finger will get stuck in a flexed position. It will usually pop when extended resulting in some pain or discomfort. When you sleep you usually hold your hand in a fist which results in worse symptoms in the morning.

Cortisone injections are the first line of treatment for this. You may try splinting but should avoid letting the digit get stiff. Surgical release is the definitive treatment.
