De Quervain's Tenosynovitis

De Quervain's Tenosynovitis is a condition where your extensor tendons get irritated running through a ligamentous tunnel on the thumb side of your wrist.

Certain health conditions, repetitive gripping, turning or pinching can cause irritation in this tunnel that leads to pain.

Pain on the thumb side of your wrist especially with repetitive activities or with flexing your thumb down and deviating the wrist.

The key to treatment is reducing the inflammation and preventing it from coming back. Braces, avoidance of exacerbating movements, anti-inflammatories, exercises, and cortisone injections may alleviate this condition. If nothing alleviates your pain, then surgery may be necessary to release the tunnel.
